Illusions
Pandora is parting
With her illusions.
One by one
She casts aside
The old beliefs and
Faces reality.
The last illusion is
Independence.
She cannot function
Alone over the
Long run. Her epic
Voyage across the
Pacific has only
Brought this
Home.
She must trust
Someone in addition
To herself.
Life is hard enough,
A friend for life
Would ease her burdens.
If she can let go of
Adolescent memories
Of a perfect parent.
That was forty years ago,
And she has sons,
Not daughters.
Time to let go the
Last illusions and
Rely on a good friend to
Make life whole again
To attract her sons
To a happy home,
Bring her calm reflection
In which to heal,
And share the burdens
On her plate.
Alone is no way to
Face the future.
Though it may take her
A long time
To gain so much
Trust to share,
I will wait and hope
She talks to me about
The burdens on
Her plate.
