Abandoned

Taking care of an Alzheimer’s patient is like
walking each day through an abandoned city.
The parks and buildings are still there
but the silence is broken only by echos of the past and
the sudden rage of a
gust of wind.
And the abandoned city
engulfs the walker
who in searching
for a lost loved one
finds only themselves
orphaned.
