Epiphany
I asked you to tell
Your teenage son
About me.
You said you did not feel
The same way I did.
I did not hear you
Until you said you could not
Introduce all your friends.
I thought I was special
But I am only a friend.
You are quite right not to
Introduce all your friends
To your impressionable son.
My arrogant and
Pretentious image of
Who I was to you,
Is now clear.
I thought I meant
More to you.
Now I hear you.
Self-awareness
Hurts but is
Better than
Self-delusion.
