Judean Boat
I and my little sister
Sally are at Richland
Creek with a boat,
A cardboard box with
Extra cardboard to reinforce
The bottom and sides.
Hospital waste is dumped
Into the creek but we are
Young elementary school
Children and fearless.
Sally gets into the box
And I run along splashing to
Keep alongside as the box
Floats along the shallow
Creek and for a few
Minutes we sail triumphant.
Until Sally stands up and
The sodden box bottom
Gives way and Sally sinks,
I pull her to shore but our
Maritime adventures end.
Years later in art class
In Junior H.S. I sketch a
Judean Boat from my
Doodle of an infinity sign
And reminisce about
The adventures Sally and
I had as kids together
Getting into trouble
In the woods and
Playing past dark.
Later we fought
And gave no
Quarter but
My Judean Boat
Holds our
Childhood
Friendship
Afloat.
