Lights

I am a nerdy kid
Playing one night
In our house
Trying to avoid
My bedtime
When my sister
Penny calls us to
Come outside to
See the Northern
Lights in the sky,
Shimmering green
Lights wavering in
The stars above
Our backyard
East of the river
And Great Mound.
It is dark and
My sisters and I
Wander about
The yard looking
Up at the moving
Green lights as
We are told the
Lights seldom
Are seen this
Far south of the
Arctic away north.
In 2011 the green
Lights return to
St. Louis and I
Wonder if my
Family in southern
Illinois are wandering
About their yards as
I did as an entranced
Nine-year-old kid.
I still dream of
Flying and the
Northern Lights
Pulsing green
In a starry
Night
Sky.
