Couch
We are sitting on the couch
Reading the Washington Post
Swapping good stories while
CNN drones quietly on the TV.
She is wearing my flannel robe
I am old soft flannel plaid shirt
As we sip our hot beverage
She coffee me tea with milk
Munching buttered toast and jam,
I notice how she fills out my robe
With curves and as I hold the
Paper in one hand discussing ion
Drive spaceships I slowly begin to
Pull on the bow tie of her robe
Which she pretends not to notice.
We read each other snippets sip our
Hot drinks as I move half her robe
Over to gaze on the symmetry of
Her shape and lightly trace the
Lines with one hand as we both
Pretend it is not happening until
She reaches over to hold my
Attention as we pretend to
Be reading stories until
The newspaper slides
To the floor and like
An Escher print the
Picture changes,
We are prone
To couches
And a
Morning
Stretch but
No yawn.
