Memories shared between
A couple build a lifetime,
The loss of half the couple
Leaves the other with no one
To share those memories,
Alone with a lifetime of
Memories only they
Remember.
Friends and children only
Remember pieces of
Those memories,
Do we sink into depression
Or try to build a new life
Sharing memories with
A new half of a couple.
Tempting to say we can
Never recapture those
Decades of memories,
But better to light
One candle than
Curse the dark.
Better to use what years
We have left to build
A new set of shared
Memories so we
Can continue to
Share our life
With someone
Who loves us
And whom
We love.
