Separation

I miss her as
I sit in our home
Reading history,
She has been
Whisked away
By her grown child
To meet new
In-laws for the
First time so I
Am not invited
Though she
Wishes I could
Go with her.
She has been gone
Since mid morning,
It is now the start
Of dusk and our
Separation seems
A long time even
Though she did phone.
We have been apart
Only a few hours at a
Time for the last
Six weeks and
And are still
Head over
Heals in
Love.
Rosy
Our dog
Is stretched
On the couch
Cushions watching
For Carol’s return out the
Front porch windows
Sadly looking at me
Hoping Carol will
Return soon
And our
Pack
Together
Again, the
Pack hunts,
The pack eats.
Rosy needs love
Not a meal and
We comfort
Each other
As best
We
Can as
Inter-species
Friends.
Separation is more
Difficult than either Carol
Or I had imagined,
How close we
Have come
To be in
Such
A short time
Living together.
Age and our
Mutual
Experience
Should allow us
To be apart at times
But love is not a
Reasonable
Emotion
Nor
Does it
Spring from
The head but
From the heart,
Human or
Canine.
