Past Sins

We harbor our
Past sins safe
From the scrutiny
Of today’s view
Of politically
Correct.
Who has not
Lapsed in their
Teens, bad
Memories have
A life of their own,
Like a rough soapstone
Kept in a pocket to
Fondle repeatedly
Until the stone is
Worn smooth to
Conform to our
Present views.
Perfection is not
A common human
Trait but achieved
By saints and even
They are not perfect,
To ere is human
To forgive divine.
Having said all that,
Obviously he,
Kavanaugh,
Did it.
Do we
Expect our
Leaders to conform
Their past to today’s
Paradigms or do ethics
Transcend Morals and
It is always wrong to
Sexually abuse the
Weak and is that not an
Indication of poor character
Which is a flaw that
Makes for a poor
Leader. Oh yeah!
I forgot, we now
Ignore poor
Character
And accept
The worst
As the best.
