Recognize

To recognize evil
Is not so easy as
It might seem,
Nor to discern good.
We are so imprisoned
By our past and the
Blinders we have
Worn all our life,
To recognize what
Is evil and
What good
Requires more than
A leap of faith.
It requires objective
Analysis stripped of
Our normal isms
Shibboleths and
Prejudices which
Color all we perceive.
We must judge the
Thing not as we wish
But as it is stripped
Of whatever hides it,
To see and recognize
What we once saw
As good for the evil
It truly is by
Observing what
It does rather than
What it says it does.
To touch the face
Of evil is to
Recognize
Our own
Selves
And
Cleanse
Away what
We know
Is our
Own
Prejudice.
