Jesus

He preached against the
Love of wealth held by
The orthodox religious
Establishment, the rich
Landlords and bankers.
He championed the poor
Hard-working folks who
Do the job while others
Get the credit because
The rich can go to Yale
Or some other snob school.
He appealed to the virtues
Of the poor downtrodden:
Hard work, long hours of
Labor and love of family.
He warned against false
Prophets out for profit,
Against the abuse of power,
Against hate, jealousy, envy and
He urged us to judge by
Actions and not by lies
We are told by clever
Con artists out to
Use us so they
Can keep
Their
Grip
On
Power
While disparaging
The working
Folks.
Jesus was
No Republican,
He was a craftsman
Like me and you.
The rich say
Caviar and crackers
Plain folks say jeez
And crackers.
Like Jesus,
We must whip
The money lenders
Out of our political temple
By voting for virtues
Over vengeance,
For human dignity
Over our prejudices,
For what
Jesus
Held
To
And
Not for
Rich old men
Who think they
Can play us
Off against
One another.
Gimme’ that old
Time government
By, for and of
The people.
The rich
Are like
The stump
The farmer has
Plowed around for too
Many years of crooked
Furrows like lower tax rates
On the rich while they
Finagle to end
Social Security.
Time to burn
Those old stumps
Into the ground,
Vote the rascals out
And let them try to
Live on Social Security
Supplements and
No pensions.
Burn them
Into the
Ground,
Then we can
Forgive their
Selfishness
Greed
And
Corruption.
