Lie

I was taught it
Is wrong to tell a lie
Which I taught to my sons,
But there are exceptions
For politeness or self
Survival of one’s
Spouse asks if
Her dress is
Too tight
And
In cases
Of deception
In business or in
Government service
And so, the President
Must upon occasion lie
To protect the state
Using guile versus
Our enemies
Even if the
Lie is to
Our
Own people.
FDR promised
In the 1940 election
That no American boy
Would fight in a foreign
War while desperately
Trying to involve the
USA in a war with
Nazi Germany
Even through
War with
Japan,
And
FDR was right
To do so or
The world
Would be
A place
Of one
View
Totalitarianism
Hating reformers
Organized union labor
Ethnic and racial minorities
Women outside the home and
Anyone who dared to admit
They varied from the herd
In any discernible way
Despite common
Sense or plain
Truth as was
Preached
By a
Jewish
Carpenter
In ancient Judea,
Love thy neighbor
Not hate thy
Neighbor.
