Chance

I am 72 sitting on
The porch of a local
Cafe one morning waiting
For a table when I strike up
A conversation with the young
Woman next to me whose name is
Called so she walks across the
Porch and comes back with
Her mother going inside.
A few minutes later she
Reappears and asks
Me if I would like to
Join her Mom and
Her at breakfast
So I concur.
Her Mom
Is slim
Petite and
Blond with an
Accent from the
High central Andes,
She is charmingly cute.
She works here in Encinitas
At an olive oil shop nearby,
We talk for hours even
After her daughter
Leaves for a hair
Appointment
Which strands her
So I offer to drive her
Home to discover
She lives very
Close to the
Condo of
Carol’s
Kids.
A few
Days later I visit
Her olive oil
Shop to
Say hi,
It
Is so
Easy to meet
Interesting people
Here where folks are
So friendly to a
Stranger that
I meet and
Talk with
Folks
At
Plays
Bookstores
And libraries,
Either people here
Are more friendly than
In Maryland or else I
Am less shy here
As the standard
Male outfit is
Shorts and
A T-shirt
Which
Is so
Like ...
Informal,
Wow! Or perhaps
I am acclimating here
Whereas Maryland
Was more like
Acupuncture
To meet
People.
I like
