Red Dawn
I am 54 driving to work
At 5:30 in the dark to
Avoid the morning rush,
At my desk in my cubicle
I review emails memos and
Requests from districts around
Texas for future traffic forecasts.
As I sip my hot tea alone in the
Office I watch out of the the
Narrow tall window looking
East as the sunrise turns
The dark lighter then
The clouds tinged
Yellow then a bit
Orange then
Red dawn
Breaks
Or
Grey
Clouds turn
A lighter shade
Or rain or snow falls,
I always smile and
Stop for a few
Seconds to
Greet the
New day
Refreshed
By my solitude
First to arrive at
Work in the office.
As I wear a tie blue
Shirt and khakis I stop
Each Friday on my way to
Work to pick up a dozen toasted
Bagels with cream cheese or in
The summer a dozen donuts
For those who arrive first
Though there are more
Than two dozen who
Work together in
Our office at
TXDOT
Traffic Analysis,
I always get a Baker’s
Dozen of 13 so a
Dozen are left
For those
Arriving
After
Me.
