Arrival
I am 72 landing in San Diego
With only a small roller suitcase
Half a left foot & no lower right leg
Using a walker for mobility using my
Arms to walk looking for Carol and
Her friend Misty to meet for lunch
And a ride to Carol’s house to be
Our home and a new life cycle
Beyond rehab moving past
The previous cycles living
In the present making
The most of the few
Cards I still hold to
Play for keeps as
Always looking
Ahead aware
Of what is
Behind.
I am
Up for
Just about
Whatever comes
Because I have Carol
As my friend here and my
Sibs, family, friends across the
Country and world who know
Me for who I am better and
Worse yet still my safety
Net allowing me in the
Year ahead to work
On ships Rome to
Florida to Lima
Peru and back
To Encinitas
Alone but
Not just
Alone
Held
By
The
Safety
Net of those
With whom I share
My life made secure
By how I was raised
How I raised my
Sons how my
Family was
Raised all
To seek
Answers
Rather to
Accept on
Faith what
Others tell me
Is moral but rather
Listening to my heart
For what feels ethical
Then speaking the
Truth and risking
Consequences
Though it has
Strained the
Patience
Of my
Family
And friends:
Persevere
Blythe
Spirit.
