Dark

New

Spreading down the mountains
As the sun sets in the Pacific,
Dark descends the altruistic
Night whose cold air clears
The skies revealing stars
Scattered then clumps
Of constellations high
Overhead as I sit in
The garden Rosie
Our red dog at
My side eager
To play any
Game but
Stars out
Tonight
Bright
In the
Dark
Which
Slowly by
Degrees hides
The shapes of plants
Flowers shrubs and trees
Until I look up as in an O’Keeffe
Watercolor of pine trunk boughs
Dark overhead stars shinning out
Between gaps like an ejaculation
Of the galaxy across the vault
Of heaven swirling like some
Hurricane seen from space
Dark as the voids between,
Crossed by whom we can
Yet guess only, marvel at
The enormity of our own
Milky Way above us in
Our shared vision in
The dark of night in
Our own garden of
Earthly delight,
Rosie barks,
I smile at
Her vigilance
But who at
Mine in
The dark?
