Tired II

New

The country
Is tired of partisan
Politics and constant
Confrontation wishing
We could massage what
Lincoln called, "The tired spot
That can’t be got at.” ... that aches
For an end to hate and twitters
Of self-justification when what
We need are leaders who take
Responsibility for their own
Mistakes and ask our help
To mend what they have
Broken by bombast and
Poor decisions too plain
Not to be seen by all.
The new has worn
Off this crusade
Of reactionary
Conservatism
This return to
What did not
Work in the
1950s and
Will not
Work
Now.
Do
We really
Want a return
To coat hanger
Abortions in adoration
Of already failed tirades
That we are right and you
Are wrong when all we
Really want is to feel
A tender touch to
That tired spot
That can’t be
Got at.
Time
To meet
Halfway as
Half a loaf is
Better than none
And both sides need
To find the middle
Ground and stop
Quoting twitters
Like they were
Scriptures.
Or, learn
To hate
And
Stop at
Nothing till
The other side
Is scourged dead.
Make up your mind
To love or hate.
Forgive,
Compromise,
Give a rest to
That tired spot.
