Grifter

New

I am 61 at a cafe
Eating dinner with
My wife when down
The aisle approaches
An African-American man
Who catches my eye then stops
By our table smiling hand extended
Saying hi to me recalling our old
Acquaintance years earlier so I
Ask him to join us and after he
Tells us of his money problem
I offer him solicitude until I
Notice he is annoyed at
My caution at which I
Offer him $10 for the
Best performance
Grift I have seen
In many years
Praising his
Selection
Of the
Mark
And follow
Through which
Pleases his vanity
And I ask him how many
People never realize they do
Not know him but are too liberal
To admit it and he brags that
His skill seldom fails to elicit
Hundreds of dollars and
My paltry $10 is unfair
So I smile and loudly
Congratulate him
On his grift and
He slides away
Looking for a
More quietly
Gullible
Patsy
Upon whom
To prey while
I remind myself
How easily I was
Duped into believing
A smooth talker as I now
Reflect how gullible so many
Americans are to false promises
By grifter politicians who lie
With a straight face while
Feathering their own
Nest at the cost of
Making us all less
Willing to listen
To more lies
More fake
Promises
All from
Lying
Grifters
Like Trump.
Or, gentle reader,
Are you so wise you
Have never believed a
Grifter scam amateur
Or professional
And do you
Still watch
FOX?
