Seconds

I am 60 celebrating
Thanksgiving with family
And friends at a local cafe
So there will be no preparation
Or clean up required plus we are
Friends with the staff who are
Both pleased and amused to
See so many steady regular
Customers gathered at a
Long table to share food
And swap stories at our
Usual breakfast place.
One of the waitresses
Smiling at so much
Laughter replies
To my praise of
The pumpkin
Pie with the
Query,
Would you
Like seconds?
She stops and laughs
Saying no wait, there are
No free seconds at the cafe,
Momentarily confused by
The family atmosphere
She forgets for a brief
Second she is at her
Job and not her at
Home as the host
Causing a wave
Of laughter at
The table and
Years joshing
Her about a
Second
Helping of
Whatever all
Of which she takes
Well though blushing
Because she is a
Good soul and
Once or twice
Does slip us
A second
Helping,
As any
Good
Texas lady
Would do
At the
Table.
