Teen Angst

I am 16 working
At the Sunshine Ranch
YMCA as a gym and game
Room instructor keeping kids
From killing themselves on the
Big trampoline and games tables
When while holding on to the edge
Of the game table leaning forward
To demonstrate how to hit the
Wooden pucks across the
Table I notice that a 15
Year old girl is leaning
Up hard against my
Hand which I try to
Pull out between
The table edge
And her aware
Few things in
Life are as
Unstoppable
As a young girl
At 15 with a hot crush.
Weeks later I am summoned
To the Director’s office to answer
Some questions concerning an
Irate father who read his teen
Daughter’s diary which the
Director sternly tells me
Included references to
Lying prone on this or
That game table and
The big trampoline
To which I reply
With surprise,
“The trampoline?”
The Director cannot
Help smiling at my stunned
Expression so I bluster I
Have four sisters and
Girls lie boys hit but
Girls lie whoppers
In their diaries.
The Director
Is smiling
And let’s
Drop an
Observation
That the trampoline
Did seem a bit too original
For my pay grade so I am sent
Back to work but can no
Longer demonstrate
The trampoline
Standing to
Sitting to
Prone
Then
Back to
Standing
Without a
Shiver of guilt
About my accuser’s
Diary imagination
And my own lack
Of originality
Though I
Did
Wonder
If the Director
Ever mentioned
The episode to his
Secretary and section
Heads dropping a
