She is not my wife
With whom I lived from
19 to 69 in a marriage all
In all beneficial to our family,
Though full of love and turmoil
And now I live with a woman who
Is my friend and domestic partner
For whom I am grateful for the day
To day company someone to talk
With help share grow and pass
The time though I have not
Forgotten my old friends
With whom I could still
Spend time picking
Up where we left
Off as if only a
Few days had
Past since
Last we
Were
Together.
How strange
Is life and love
Especially in old
Age when shadows
Stretch long and we are
Prone to philosophize about
What earlier in life we took as
A matter of life and death and
Love but in hindsight seem
More like children’s brief
Squabbles though at
The time hurt deep
Or brought us joy
Beyond belief we
Now reflect but
My heart still
Glows with
Joy at my
Friends
And
My
Partner.
Good company
Past and present
With whom to share
The past and present.
Let jealousy rest a bit and
Savor life’s delicious ironies,
We are older if not always
Wiser for our experiences
Have only taught us to
Peruse the past and
The virtues of a
Patience we
Bought
With
Our lives,
The best is
Yet to come.
