Retiree

My wife retired
After forty years at
UT then I retired from
TXDOT though I still taught
At the community college and
Daytimes I helped her rearranging all the drawers in the house plus closets and even pots and pans
All to organize more efficiently
But she went gladly to work at
TXDOT for almost four years
And finally retired again so
I suppose I outlived her
Second career though
We always joked a
Marriage is like an
English mid-1800
Tontine where a
Dozen fathers
Bet their kid
Will live the
Longest &
Collect all
The lucre
Saved,
Just so with
Modern marriages
Except that the spouse
Who dies first wins,
A game I lost at
The one time
I played but
Did learn
A lot,
Love is
A leap of
Faith worth
Taking even as
A retiree.
