Fever

My son is about 16
With a high fever we
Think is just the flu but
His fever is too high and
Has lasted to a third day
Even after we got him to lie
In the bathtub in cool water so
We are driving him to the a
Nearby emergency room
Where the doctor tells
Us she just finished
Working in Denver
And our son’s
Symptoms
Remind
Her of
Rocky
Mountain
Spotted fever
But if she treats
Him for that it might
Be something else so
We confirm he canoed
Dow n a Texas river a bit
Over a week previously so
We gamble and treat him for
The doctor’s first prognosis which
Turns out to be correct and he
Slowly improves over the next
Several days returning to
His old self joking self
Deprecatory and like
His brothers a fine
Young man full
Of promise
Which
Over
The last
Third of a
Century he
Demonstrated
Serving in both
Military and in
Civilian posts
Of honor to
Our delight
And like
His two
Brothers
An asset to
Our Republic.
We are all on a
Journey through
Life trying to do our
Best overcoming any
Roadblocks we encounter,
Persevere Blythe Spirit
The best is yet
To come.
