Soft

I am a small
Child running
Across a dark
Yard one night
Avoiding going in
The house to bed
Catching fireflies
With my sisters
Feeling feet on
Soft grass the
Soft touch of
Warm humid
Air across a
Cheek with
Millions of
Stars just
Above a
Hands
Reach away
Soft lights in a
Velvet black sky
Bath towel tied to
My neck as a cape
About to jump up and
Fly into the night air
To whirl about as
The street lights
Pass below at
Odd angles
As I bank
Left to
Skim
By porch
Lights then
Higher to catch
A star to show my
Sisters & parents
Playmates
I tumble
Onto
The soft
Lawn grass
Lay on my back
Breathing deep the
Soft kindness of summer.
