Baby
Another new baby
Has arrived and my job
At the responsible age of ten
Is to wash out the dirty diapers
In the toilet then pass the diaper
Pail on for my older sisters to
Wash and hang up to dry,
Saturday is bath day so
My oldest sister bathes
The baby then the two
Year old then adds a
Teapot of hot water
So my sister then I
Can bath then
Some more
Hot water
Added
So
My next
Older sister
Can bathe then
My oldest sister gets
More hot water to bathe
Which in winter is not as easy
As it is today when the house is
Heated warm but back in the
1950s life was still more of
An adventure and baths
Were quick as the tub
Water cooled faster
Then the soap
Could be
Washed off
The kid toweled off
And all sent off to bed
Where warm covers offered
A warm refuge on a winter night
And if the new baby cried
We could not hear as
We hid under the
Covers until the
Odor of bacon
Toast butter
Jam and
Cocoa
Woke us,
And the new baby.
