Night Train

Above all the
Sound of the train
Horn Hoom! Hoom! Hoom!
Hoooooooopom! at every cross
Roads through the night urging all
To caution approaching train as
Passengers sit in the dark in a
Circle of light reading texting
As the train rocks back and
Forth outside the windows
Lights roll by mostly brief
White light sometimes
Colored little pulls of
Acceleration tug on
Us passengers
Time to time
As the dark
Rushes by
Hoom!
Each
Passenger
Must stack their
Luggage in a
Common bin
With other
Bags all
Piled
Waiting to
Be yanked up
At someplace
You never heard
Of in the darkness
Waiting to hear the
Train whistle say to
Them goodnight now
Sleep the train has gone
Until the next train comes
Along a routine the sleeper
And train both know only the
Novice passenger pays any
Attention cautious as to
When and where they
Will get off the train
Hour by hour no
One in a hurry
On a train at
Night a few
Talk some
To others
Some
With their
Reflection on
Their window or
Just outside their
Window but no matter
This is train town on steel
Wheels hurtling by at night.
