Splash

I am seven
Jumping from
One puddle to the
Next in the heavy rain
Dressed in summer shorts
Barefoot leaping high to land
On both feet in the asphalt street
Splashing over and over enthralled
At being seven splashing in the
Downpour exuberant at the
Freedom not to need a
Raincoat as this day
Saturday was an
Extended play
Recess since
Chores are
Put off till
Sunshine
Dries off
Things
So laundry
Can be hung
Up wood painted
And all the other jobs
Can once again intrude
So is retirement likewise
A time to jump and splash
In the warm rain oblivious
Of normal work chores
Free to simply enjoy
Splashing anyone
Around us like a
Mischievous
Old man
Who
Swerves
A bit driving
To hit a puddle
Splashing his old
Friend gleeful still
Chuckling laughing
We are such children
At heart even in old age.
