Sepia
I am old
Peering at
The old Dutch
Sepia prints from
Amsterdam along
The walls of one deck
Of an ocean liner prints
Of boats at sea tulip fields
By country lanes of ordinary
People at work in their a
Myriad of trades but it
Is Christmas time so
I imagine red and
Green added to
The brownish
Sepia prints
Just as we
Use those
Colors to
Raise
Our
Christmas
Cheer at winter’s
Beginning knowing
The cold and dark that
Lie ahead but still
Cheery eager to
Celebrate our
Winter time
Of joy as
The Yule
Log and
Mistletoe
Are Norse
Symbols of
Winter warmth
And the death of
Baldur’s innocence
And even the lighted
Christmas tree all
Symbols of old
Pagan times
As is the
Wreath
But not in
Sepia but red
For fire and green
For the fir tree boughs
Or even darker mistletoe
But at the end of the ship’s
Hallway I turn and smile
Because it is a time
To let go of old
Grudges and
Embrace the
Art on the
Next deck which
If I recall are color prints
So the best is yet to come.
