Done

I am still a
Boy Scout at
Heart even at 73
Riding a train along
The Pacific coast as the
Sun sounds day is done cones
The night and I am once again
In uniform the scent of wood
Campfires supper sizzling
On grills corn on the cob
Roasting salted in the
Shell peanuts for a
Snack afterwards
Around a camp
Fire stories
Songs as
Dark is
Flowing
Between
The trees
Fireflies like
Yellow eyes in
The inky darkness
Caught and smeared
On foreheads and cheeks
We are little better than savages
Trained to politeness and order
Disciplined to a point of view
We believe what we have
Been taught eager to
Fulfill our training
Carry out our
Mission of
Leadership
And ethical values
Like forest Freemasons
All done while still
Boys believing
Deus lo vult,
God wills it.
All learned
As boys in
Camp in
Firefly
War paint,
Gauntlets run,
Best job I ever had
And for life.
