Forever

I read Seeger’s
Poems on WWone
But think of Australia
Where a town at night
Is lit by fires in the hills:
“In some burning midnight
Town on some scarred slope
Of battered hill I have a rendezvous
With death ...” and hope my friends
In Australia skip their rendezvous
And find better times ahead by
Replanting reseeding going on
Jumping in the billabong but
Treading water until time
To wade out to shore
To make Australia
Beautiful again
A happy place
Reclaimed
By a love
Of the
Land
Too
Strong
For fires
To burn out,
Too brave to
Waltz Matilda,
Better to kiss her.
Australia new
Forever.
