Huangpu

I am 66
Watching
Out my cabin
Window at the
Banks if the Huangpu
River as the ship passes by
All sorts of businesses each lit by
Electric lights busy at 3 AM all
The way from Shanghai to
The Yangtze delta I muse
The shape of the high
Ground has not much
Changed over time
This is how the
Chinese saw
Things on
Their
Way to
India Africa
Around the Pacific
Many centuries ago.
Sea level is the best way
To see the world if you want
To experience what humans have
Seen from past perspectives
All over the world from the
Ships that pass in the
Night to a daytime
Passage up a
Fjord in icy
Greenland and
Then out another
Fjord in the Arctic seas
Still amazing to me today.
But, you must have courage
To risk the voyage of discovery
Not retreat into your hobbit
Hole irregardless how
Comfy and set
Your foot on
To the road
No matter
Where it
Takes
You.
