Look II
Do you look
In or look out,
In life sometimes
It is helpful to leave
One’s body and see our
Selves from a distance but
Dangerous if we cannot get
Back inside we may become
A narcissist forever enchanted
By our appearance while always
Looking out leaves us unaware of
How we appear to others so the key
Is moderation in all things but most
Especially in looking out and in as
I muse on a summer night when
I was eight running in the moon
Light with my sibs catching a
Firefly waiting for the cool
Green firelight then with
Fingers pinching off a
Bit smearing it on our
Cheeks like Indians
We hoop holler in
Ferocious war
Paint like old
Shawnee on
A raid both
Looking in
And out
In glee
Petit
Savages
Our inner child
Fearsome to behold.
Children raised to be in
Control of our world as
We see it and ourself
All breathless at full
Speed rushing into
The future full of
Confidence in
Our ability to
Both look
Out and
To look
In, id
Absurdum.
