Draw
I am nine
Sitting at the
Table at home
Drawing with pencil
Warships on paper both
Battleships and clipper ships
One drawing after another
Then landscapes crayon
To watercolor always
Encouraged by my
Mother learning
Later in the 9th
Grade about
Art history
Fra Angelico’s
Pastels to Albrecht
Durer and the Northern
Renaissance Vermeer but
First Bosch then Brueghel all
Fascinating but later I saw
The landscapes of the
Ming dynasty artists
Depicting daily life
In China people
At work or play
Bridges hills
Rivers and
Boats all
Busy in
Life as
I read
About a
Chinese artist
Who drunk tried
To embrace the moon’s
Reflection in the river or canal
Water fell in and drowned a
Lesson but I’m not sure of
What except the love of
Nature that art reflects
Rather than the art
Which reflects
Nature but is
Secondary
To what it
Portrays
Much as love
Reflects the emotion
In an embrace of lovers.
Art follows nature as
Form follows
Function
In architecture.
Ryder said the artist
Must live to paint and
Not paint to live
Which I still
Have on
My wall by
My bed under
Durer’s drawing, Hare.
Draw your own life
Conclusions.
