This place
Hagia Sophia
A vast arched space
Enclosed in stone is immense
Across and up amazing even today
In 2012 standing here in Istanbul
Old Constantinople since built
537 AD this scarred stone
Floor where they walked
The Emperor Justinian
And Byzantine rulers
For 900 years then
Muslim Sultans
For 475 years
Until 1918 to
Enchant all
Those who
Behold it
And my
Friend
Asks
Me
Why
Travel
When it’s
All on the web.
Why travel you may
Ask but if you are
Not stirred by
Wonders no
Answer is
Enough
To feel the
Kiss lingering
Long after your
True love has gone
Or the agonies and the
Triumphs of so many hearts
Once beating here under this
Dome of Hagia Sophia far above.
