Long ago
There used
To be service
Stations where
A helpful attendant
Would pump your gas
Check your oil and tires
Wash your windshield and
Bring your change back to you.
In Texas this service always
Came with a friendly wave
And a smile so when my
Old friend told me this
Story it seemed just
What you would
Expect in
Texas.
The attendant
An elderly gentleman
Took a long time
Looking under
The hood
Then he
Said,
“Ma’am
I hate to tell
You this but some
Body done stole your
Dipstick. That’s a hell of
A thing for someone to do.”
She got out of her car to
Look under the hood
And pointed out to
Him where the
Dipstick was
On her car
To which
He said,
“Well
Ma’am, I
Never saw
One on that side
Before but glad you
You showed me where.”
To this day she does
Not know if he was
For real or just
Wanted to
See her
Get
Out of
Her car
And peer
Under the
Car hood to
Admire her form
Before his thank you.
That is the charm of Texas.
