Perimeter
I awake
In the night
Slide out of bed
Patrol the perimeter
Checking all is well for
A time because I have many
Responsibilities to worry about
Before I can lay down again to
Rest perhaps to sleep or just
Relax listening to breathing
Or snoring or the wind or
Rain traffic far away the
Truck gears train eerie
Whistle more familiar
Than scary just one
More night sound
Around my own
Perimeter of
Cares glad
To share
Alone
At night
Memories
Smile and rest
My head to sleep.
I own the night and
Have a mortgage
To prove it but
For now time
To sleep
Deep.
