Manager

Sky

I am waiting
In front of a book
Store in Conroe, Texas
The only bookstore in town
And it is 16 minutes late opening
With a crowd of a dozen customers
So when the manager drives up she
Immediately unlocks the door and
Let’s us all enter at once with no
Excuses no blaming others no
Getting into a defensive kind
Of panic and I remark to
My friend that I think
The woman seems
A good manager
Since she kept
Calm under
Pressure
And
Fixed
The problem
Not the blame.
I recall Alexander
Pope’s poem, “For
Forms of government
Let fools contest, what
Ere is best administered
Is best.”
