Cognizance

She strikes
Her forehead
With both palms
Over and over angry
Saying stupid stupid stupid.
She says she is sorry to be such
A burden since her mild case of
Cognitive disassociation has
Morphed into dementia on
The way to Alzheimer’s
Though I tell her she is
No burden and we’ll
Get through that is
Not true as things
Get worse over
Time ending
In some
Institution
And I wonder
Now if this COVID
Will morph into long
Term loss of cognizance.
You better pray it does
Not as there is no
Worse thing for
You than to
Lose your
Mind
Wandering
In confusion a
Condition we see
Too often these days.
I hope those who
Now seem lost
To reason are
Just selfish
Immature
Politicos
And not
The thin end
Of the wedge of
Loss of cognizance
Which is how
Societies
Commit
Suicide.
