Visiting my
New neighbors
An elderly couple
Whose married daughter
Will be my stepmother in about
Seventeen years but the old man
Is very ill sitting on his enclosed
Front porch while we talk on
Ships Kon Tiki a reed raft
And sailing it to Tahiti in
Pre Colombian Peru as
He sips his drink and
I get ice cream but
I am struck by our
Conversation so
I use toothpicks
And Elmer’s
Glue to
Make
A replica
A toothpick
Model of Thor
Heyerdahl’s craft
Which I give to my new
Elderly friend whose wife
Is touched by the gift gracious
Even for a Texas lady so after
Her husband passes we talk
About sea voyages and her
Husband until she moves
Away to some retirement
Home where her grand-
Daughters visit her
And her daughter
Becomes friendly
With my folks
Marrying my
Dad after
My Mom
Passes.
I know
Not
What
Happened
To the raft of
Toothpicks but
Glad the old man
Was so fond of it and
My friend for awhile
We did like to talk
About sailing on
Voyages both
Recent and
Historical.
I must
Have

Thousands
Of drawings
On sailing ships
To WW2 battleships
Planning on being a Navy
Cook visiting the wide world.
