Tent

I am fortyish
Lying in a camping
Tent in the Gila Wilderness
At 8500 feet up in pine-covered
Mountains in a meadow as
The rain pelts down on
Our tent my wife is
Reading her book
And I mine dry
And snug in
Miserable
Weather
Happy
To be
On
Vacation
In New Mexico
Both of us waiting
For the day the rain
Stops and we can go
Into to town to Mama T’s
Mexican cafe for chips salsa
Enchiladas tacos chili rellenos
Flautas tamales pollo mole
Gorditas chili on rice and
Some iced tea with lime
But meanwhile we sit
Or lay reading and
Snacking on gorp
Dried beef strips
Little Snickers
Bars and vile
Wyler’s mix
Lemonade
Tasting
Of
Water
Purification
Tablets and stream
Water unboiled due to
The steady rain falling on
Our meadow thunder on
The mountains around
Us as various critters
Watch us across the
Meadow and chip
Monks invade
Our tent to
Raid food
Supplies
Each
Day
And night
In our tent our
Presidio Soledad.
Oh! Did I mention the
Lightning flashes
And gusts of
Wind and
What
Ever is
Crawling
Under the tent?
Camping! We love it!
