Lady in a London flat on
Lambeth Road an American
Lady studying law showing
Me a room for rent and
The kitchen and bath
Shared by several
People but her
Voice was so
Welcoming
As she
Made
Tea and
Put a few
Cookies on
A plate for us
I took the room
While researching
In the new Kew Gardens
Public Record Office
Meeting a fellow
Lodger Chris
My friend
These
Past 43
Years tho
Mostly by post
Or online we have
Grown old sharing our
Correspondence while the
Sweet lady making tea
I’ve not seen in all
That time most
Likely some
Lawyer
Now
So no
More tea
Cookies nor
Likely such a
Friendly openness
With a total stranger.
Yet, I listen for her
Voice saying to
Me come in
Take a
Seat
I’ll put
The kettle on.
