Love & Politics

Once you love someone,
You love them forever,
Or you never really
Loved them at all.
I do not speak of
Infatuation or
Unrequited love,
Or the blindness
Of those abused
As children,
I mean the deep
Abiding love of couples.
You may no longer like
Your other but you
Never stop loving them.
No matter how much
Provocation you have.
Like a mother’s love
For a child gone bad,
Love for your other
Never fades or dies
Even after they
Are gone forever.
The heart is
Not as clever
As the head,
And knows
Only to
Love or
Hate.
Beware playing
Politics with
The heart.
Love and hate
Leave little room
For compromise.
