Turn off That

It is the end
Of another long
Work shift at
The RXDrugstore,
She walks along
The dark sidewalk
To the house on
North Anna Street
Where she and
Her elderly mother
Both live each alone.
Her children are
Grown and gone,
She enters and
Sits to watch the
News at 10 pm on
TV and have a bite
To eat and relax.
From a bedroom
Comes her mom’s
Voice telling her,
“Betty, turn off that
TV and go to bed.”
Betty starts to comply
But stops and replies,
“Mom, I am 50 years
Old and I do not
Have to go to bed!”
She smiles at her
Predicament and
Softly laughs to
Herself and shakes
Her head side to side,
She may watch an
Evening show
Before she lays
Down her head
To sleep.
