Hedge

Around the sides
And back of our
House in Austin
In the 1970s we
Planted a hedge
Of photinia with
Red tipped leaves
Each Spring.
The hedge grew
Twelve feet tall
To give our pool
And house
Some privacy.
One day I got home
From work to see
The hedge trimmed
Down to less than
Half its height,
I asked my wife why?
She said it was time,
I walked out in anger
For hours until after
Dark when I came
Back home to
Talk it over
With her.
I miss
That
Hedge but
Had no idea
How much
Worse a
Loss could be
Though now
I do and what to do.
You pick up
The pieces
And move on.
