Retired

When my wife retired
After forty years at UT,
I asked her what was
She now that she was
No longer a resources
Or office or business
Manager, was she just
A housewife?
When she was angry
Her northern Virginia
Accent came back and
Her blue eyes turned
A menacing rebel grey,
Both happened and I took
A step back and waited,
“Ah no longah choose to
Define mahself in terms
Of a JOB!”
She lasted six months
Resting at home
Then the dog told her,
“Lady go back to work
I have to sleep daytimes
To keel yaw’ll up at night.”
So she worked another
Five years for TXDOT
And met a whole new
Group of friends and
Gossip less pretentious
Than those at UT.
At either career
Her fine character
Shown like a
Light for
Those
Around her.
