Hail

Thunder rolls and
Lightning flashes,
Hail rattles against my
Window in rehab during
A rainstorm followed by
All the lights going out,
I lay in bed writing poems
While my cell phone keeps
A bit of bright in the dark.
I hear pandemonium in the
Hallway outside my room,
Nurses and aides rushing
To check on their patients.
And the lights come back
On and schedules resume.
I am reading WOLF HALL
given to me by my friend
With whom I will live after
Mid-June to trade literary
Critiques and otherwise
Amuse each other
Together as a couple which
Seems most agreeable to us.
Though rain may fall and
Hail rattle on our windows we
Will smile in the dark
By our cell phones’
Bit of bright.
And when
The lights come on we
Will read some
More.
