Teach That Man

My second step-mother
Was the top manager for
USAA claims adjustments,
She used to relate that a
Male doctor once tried to
Tell her she needed her
Right ovary removed but
She refused, got well,
Saved her ovary and
Taught that man a lesson!
She was a pioneer feminist.
In a TXDOT four day retreat
The graduation ceremony
Hid everyone’s diploma in
Plain sight in the room and
We had to find ours except
The Female in charge did not
Like my questions and hid my
Diploma out of sight behind
A window curtain to chastise.
I realized at once and borrowed
Someone’s diploma and used it
To wave across the room to our
Feminist leader which caused her
To turn her gaze to where she
Had hid my diploma which I
Then retrieved to her
Grudging amusement.
So much in life is
Petty attempts to
Right wrongs we
Suffered long
Ago and which
No longer apply
As the world has
Moved on to new issues
Though we like to
Rehash what
Is long dead
And call it
Anecdotes
Which is
What I taught
For 47 years
And called it
History.
