Old Souls

Are folks who seem
Mature at an early
Age whom we call
Old souls perhaps
Angels either awarded
Or punished by a
Lifetime on earth as
A human being or
Some other sentient
Being like a dog, whale,
elephant or even a tree.
They would not be aware
But might shine or at
Least if human seem
An old soul to others.
Some dogs seem just
Too able to read our
Thoughts to be simply
A pack animal whose
Instincts are attuned
To their human
companion.
Or, do
Angels dream
And share
Our life
Until they
Wake,
Lincoln was
An old soul who
Appealed to the
Better angels
Of our nature
With a rough
Humor.
