Nord Cap
I am 71 on the open deck
Of my ship off Nord Cap
With no lecture scheduled
For today watching our
Approach to port as yet
Another dark gray rock hill
Streaked with snow glides
Past wondering where my
Friend Bertha has taken refuge
To view the land far above
The Arctic Circle under gray skies.
I find her in the Crows Nest sipping
Hot chocolate waiting for me,
We sit together as our ship docks
And I decide looking is as good
As walking around the tiny port
While she opts to land and explore.
Later we meet for lunch in the
Dining area for a civilized meal
Of fish and chips in modest
Servings followed by hot tea
And an assortment of berries.
We are platonic friends and
Travel companions who
Watch out for each
Other far from
The Chesapeake
Bay sailing the Norway
Coast and around the Baltic
As friends who never
Cross our agreed
Boundaries
Happy
To
Be just
Friends and
Nothing more.
We will always be
Friends and a
Refuge if we
Ever need
A Port in
A storm.
