Days Apart
Some days
We spend
Mostly apart,
We read watch
CNN or garden
Study old campaigns
Doing what is best done
All by ourselves.
We move in
Separate orbits
Close but not
The same,
Each needing
Some private
Space to
Breathe and
Contemplate.
A touch of
Loneliness to
Emphasize the
Time we spend
Together as
A couple.
Mostly
We
Mix the
Two modes,
Each enjoying
Our own pursuits
Aware the other,
Though out of
Sight,
Is close
By.
A more
Mature love
Than a younger
Couple could
Maintain
But a
Fit
Comfortable
For us.
And yet, she
Is never far
From my
Mind,
Nor
I
From hers,
A double helix
Of shared
Points
Or
Synapses
Each sparking,
Sparkling
And best
Of all
Spontaneous.
